Today was Alina's first doctor's appointment. It was a difficult one to get through but necessary. She had blood drawn, the TB test given, and two immunizations. She was not at all happy during all of this as you can imagine. It was hard for me too, it always is when I see one of my children upset. Good news is she quit crying as soon as I picked her up off the table=) During the exam we discovered she had 2 ear infections! She has had a cold, but she gave no indication that her ears were bothering her. I am going to have to be suspicious when she has a cold and just get her checked out next time just in case. I am going to watch her to see if maybe I missed something. She might just be used to getting them at the baby house and doesn't react with pulling her ear, or not eating or drinking. She has been eating and drinking great! No ear pulling that I have noticed.
She weighs 19lbs 15oz. Almost a whole pound more than her medical in Almaty 3 weeks ago today. She is in the 4th percentile (she actually made the chart this time) and the 12th percentile on height. Head circumference is 18th percentile. She is pretty proportionate all around=) Developmentally she seems to be doing great! Of course she is a late walker, but we are working on that. It is also hard to tell with speech right now since we don't speak the same language=)
She is learning so much every day! Today while eating lunch she grabbed my nose. I said "nose" several times. She did it again a bit later and I repeated "nose". Then I asked her "Where is my nose?" I stressed the word nose. I asked the question several times. She looked at me, then down my face, and grabbed my nose! We played this game several times with me touching her nose as well. She thinks it is a great game. I can't believe she caught on so fast! She says "up" and "mama" and "da" for Daddy. Today she said "Aba!" and was looking at Abbie, so we are pretty sure she was calling her sister. She is also taking more and more steps on her own. She will push herself up from the floor and take a few steps before loosing her balance. Then she grins really big and will try again.
She is such a cuddler=) I love it when we are getting ready for bed and I am holding her for a bit before laying her down. She grabs hold of her blanky and lays her head down on my chest and pops her thumb in her mouth. Makes me go all mushy=)
She is also fine with Quentin now. She plays with him and goes over to him. She is not shy of him anymore. The only time she has a problem with him is if he picks her up and I am right there. Then she wants me. She is fast learning that Daddy is for playing=)
I am still feeling sick. I went to the minute clinic this evening when Quentin got home to get my throat looked at since it has been sore for 4 days. Luckily no strep on the rapid test. I doubt it shows up as strep at all. It really doesn't feel like it, but my tonsils are all swollen and sore. I wanted to be sure, cause if I have it, then chances are someone else does or will soon!
K....off to bed we go!

Kara,
I'm so sad to hear you're sick. I can't imagine being sick with a household and 4 kids to look after. Wow. Hats off to ya.
I was very interested to hear your account of teaching Alina "nose." I'll have to try that with C since so far my methods produce giggles, but nothing more!
I'm also very glad you're writing this blog. It's so great to get to keep up with your family this way. Also, for selfish reasons, I'm glad because I learn a lot from it. I always said I wished you and Q were writing a book on parenting because I admire so much of what you've done with your family. Now you are (of sorts!)
Give our love to all,
Amy (+R & C)
